Happy 101st Birthday, Mom!

Mom is standing with her first father-in-law, Herbert Garrett with her oldest child Norman who is holding his oldest son, Norman Jr. some time 1963-1965.

This was taken at Aunt Lillian's son Richard baby shower for the birth of his daughter Emily.
                                                                 This was around 1977.

This is the whole gang at the shower. Sharon holding Julie, Mom holding Emily, Lissa holding Daniel and Bruce holding Wendy.

This was one Christmas at my house on Old Peruville Road in Groton, NY. My favorite color was orange and when I bought the house the kitchen happened to be orange. I may have mentioned it before but Mom would say to me, "When the hell are you going to paint this kitchen?" It was 3 or 4 years before I did change it. It sure was bright!

This was the same year and Mom was opening gifts. I'm not sure if this was for her birthday or Christmas but we all made sure she got a birthday gift each year. The kids are Jeff, Robin, not sure if the one above Robin is Peter or Patrick, my brother Larry, Julie and Norm.

It sure doesn't seem as though it has been 37 years since she left this world. Lissa and I were talking about it just the other day. So many times I would love to sit down and talk to her about family history and ask her different question. I look at my grandkids and realize they will never know her and most of the knowledge that I have of her and family history will be lost.

I love and miss you Mom!

Happy Birthday, Sexy!

72 today! WOW! I sure wish you were here so we could celebrate. I missed the 'my birthday is January 3rd, you know that, right?' speech this past Christmas season! You always made sure everyone around you knew your birthday was coming up.

Here are a few pictures from the 32 years we spent together. The only ones that are in the correct time frame are the first one and the last 2. The first one is the very first photo of us together and is one of my favorites. The photo booth was great! The final 2 were while Carl was in the nursing home and hospital.

The adventures we went on! A trip to the San Diego Zoo by way of Kelly's and Trebor's one year. Many visits to Western Festivals in Kanab, UT, and Scottsdale, AZ. The anniversary trip from Hoover Dam to Yuma, CA. A visit to the Shaker Village in Franklin, TN. The vacation with my sister and brother-in-law to the 'Shawshank Redemption prison in Mansfield, OH. Seeing the solar eclipse for the second time in Cottontown, TN. Visiting family at the Voorheis reunion in Reynoldsville, NY. Quilt store visits any time we went anywhere. Lake Havasu City, AZ, Zip lining for the first time in Cave City, KY. Local parks with visiting family, and in our own home we had fun! The only picture I found of Kelly was when we went to the PowWow in Fredonia, AZ one year. Of course, I only was able to get her from the back, sorry Kelly! I couldn't find any pictures of Trebor and I know we had some, but all my searching didn't give me the results I wanted. Sorry, Treb!

Love you, Beautiful!

Until we meet again!

Treasures from the past!

Recently I changed my computer desk area around and all of the papers that I haven't had the energy to take care of the past year or so finally managed to convince me to take care of tonight.

I'm glad I wanted to sort instead of just tossing! My first surprise was the $21.00! that was wrapped in a receipt.

The second was as I was checking to make sure I didn't throw away any business receipts I started this pile of  receipts from Carl's chocolate milkshakes and ice cream. All of theses were great reminders of all the simple joy I was able to bring to Carl when I couldn't go inside and give him a hug. I can still see his smile when the staff handed him a shake or a pint of ice cream!

I also found a few old pictures while I was sorting. My very favorite one of Carl was taken on one of our trips to Niagara Falls, NY. I think it was taken the first year Kelly, Trebor and Spencer came out to spend the summer with us. What is surprising about it is he is clean shaven in this one. For most of our 32 years together he had either a moustache or beard and moustache so clean shaven was rare. I carried this one in my wallet for several years and that is where I found it when cleaning.

Great treasures with great memories!

I'm BAAAAAACK!

It's sad, I think about my blog and remember how much fun I've had over the years posting things going on in my life. Then the next thought is the time it takes to think of things to share, the pictures that I want to put on that need editing, then I think of the time it all takes. That's where my energy gets up and goes, LOL!

Last year in July I opened a 'shop' at TN Flea Mall in White House, TN. It is a consignment shop that has several booths for rent. I was one of the lucky ones that got in the door when they first converted from a weekend flea market to a consignment shop. Then 2 months ago I also started selling just my kitchen hanging towels at Mama's Place in Goodlettsville, TN. Both spots are great outlets for me. I have my sister making cotton dishcloths, baby afghans and lovie afghans too!

I was just looking for some photos to grace this post with, but of course all my pics are on my phone. See, I haven't even taken the time to get those downloaded to my computer. I know I can post from my phone, but it is much easier to post from my computer, so my next step needs to be to download my phone pics......

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day in White House, TN. We are being invaded by the hordes for the eclipse. The town has been promoting this day for months so I'm sure that it will be a lot of fun getting around town. I'm just glad that I should be home and away from the hordes. I'll let you know how that works out!

Some memories from 2016

Just sitting here thinking about the things we have seen since the beginning of 2016. I know I haven't spent much time sharing our life, but I have been recording it with pictures.

We started the year out with a snow storm (or 2)...

Then after the snow disappears we started seeing the wildlife. Here is a herd or rafter of turkeys walking across a corn field.

Then here is an Heron just waiting for lunch!

Carl and I really love to just take in the sites as we are going about our lives. Cheap and just about every where you look if you look close enough!

Having fun again!

I love living close to cities that offer great entertainment. Not long ago Carl and I went to a concert that was a 'Tribute to Kris Kristofferson'. Tonight we are waiting to see Barry Manilow. Last year we saw Loretta Lynn twice and will be taking my sister and brother-in-law to see her next month.

While waiting I'm sitting here remembering other singers and entertainers we have seen over the years. What a fun journey we have traveled over the past 27 years.

Thanks Carl!

Differences between here and there......

Julie and I were talking today about the diffences we encounter while driving between other places and here. We have found that the speed of vehicles are always 5-10 miles an hour faster than the posted speed limit every where else.... here it is 5-10 miles slower. I have also noticed that when the light first turns red it means 'go' and Julie figures that everybody wants to get away from that line of cars behind them that they created with their 5-10 miles an hour under the speed limit..... On the other hand I have found that the people around here are more generous with giving donations then anywhere else. On our counters at work we have buckets for donations and we get more money in 24 hours then I did in a week when I worked at Circle K in AZ. I'm not sure if the generosity cancels out the driving or not.....

PS, Happy Birthday Norm!

Until next time,

Another concert at Loretta Lynn's Ranch!

On our anniversary we went to see Loretta Lynn at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Then when Lissa was here in July we did the tours which were fantastic. Lissa and I spent a lot of time in the museum. This concert was a 'sister' concert with Crystal Gayle. Peggy Sue was there too, which was a nice addition.

Here is Loretta's bus. We didn't realize last concert that this was out back of the stage. To the left of Loretta's bus was Crystal's, but it wasn't a clear picture so I didn't take one of it.

Crystal came on first. Great show.

Peggy Sue and Crystal.

Loretta, of course!

Crystal's hair. It is just a mite shorter now. It goes just past her knees instead of to the floor.

Peggy Sue, Loretta and Crystal.

Loretta and Crystal.

I really love going to these concerts. It just amazes me the strength of the voices of these ladies. Loretta is 83, Peggy Sue is 72 and Crystal is 64. They just knock you out of your seats when they sing.
